Mike Awesome passes away

Former ECW world champion Mike Awesome (real name Mike Alfonso) was found dead in his home on Saturday. He was 41.
Awesome was an amazingly agile man for his size, and made a name for himself in FMW in Japan as The Gladiator, in a feud with Masato Tanaka that was carried over to the US when both men worked for ECW, putting on some of the most memorable extreme matches ever. The feud even continued in 2005 when Awesome faced Tanaka in the match of the night at the ECW One Night Stand reunion PPV.
Awesome will definitely be remembered by hardcore fans for his time in ECW and FMW, since his run in WCW and WWE did more to damage his credibility than add to his legend.

Rest in Peace, Gladiator. You will be missed.

WWE No Way Out 2007 results

MVP & MNM VS The Hardys & Chris Benoit
So much for the Hardys/MNM match at the Royal Rumble being the final confrontation of the two teams. Was rather surprised at the time they gave the match, which is a good thing. Though it was a little premature for Mercury to tap out the second Benoit put the Crossface on him, even if he does have a busted face.
Match Rating: **

WWE Cruiserweight Title Invitational: Scotty 2 Hotty VS Daivari VS Gregory Helms [C] VS Funaki VS Shannon Moore VS Jimmy "Wang" Yang VS Jamie Noble VS Chavo Guerrero
Scotty 2 Hotty beat Daivari with the Worm.
- Daivari goes from beating Tommy Dreamer in ECW to jobbing to the one of the WWE jobber kings in Scotty 2 Hotty and one of the most ridiculous finishers EVER. He should have stuck with Great Khali.
Gregory Helms beat Scotty 2 Hotty with a modified facebuster.
- I love Helms' knee to the face finisher.
Gregory Helms pinned Funaki hooking the tights.
- Former cruiserweight champion jobs in seconds, even if Helms did cheat.
Gregory Helms beat Shannon Moore with a modified facebuster.
- A short 3-Count reunion.
Jimmy "Wang" Yang pinned Gregory Helms with a hurricanrana.
- Some asshole in the crowd actually yeld "boring" during this?!?
Jimmy "Wang" Yang pinned Jamie Noble with a moonsault.
Chavo Guerrero beat Jimmy "Wang" Yang with the frog splash to win the title.
- Yang thought he had the title won, but Chavo was the surprise entry in the match and had a fun match with Yang before pulling out the win.
Match Rating: ***

Finlay & Little Bastard VS The Boogeyman & Little Boogeyman
Finlay wearing Little Bastard's green bowler and kicking Little Boogeyman in the face was one of the greatest spots ever! Good to see Finlay pick up the win here even if it was by pinning Little Boogeyman with a shot from the shalayleigh.
Match Rating: *

King Booker with Queen Sharmell VS Kane
Pretty good back and forth match with Kane winning it with the chokeslam.
Match Rating: **

WWE Tag Team Titles: Paul London & Brian Kendrick VS Deuce 'N' Domino with Cherry
My first look at Deuce 'N' Domino with their 50's gimmick, which is kinda cool. They dominated the champions with their size and power, but the ending bit where Kendrick countered and pinned Deuce (or is that Domino?) with a roll up just barely ducking the other guy out of the Doomsday Device was timed PERFECTLY! I hope Deuce 'N' Domino aren't fazed out as they look like a fun thug team to keep around.
Match Rating: **

ECW World Title: Bobby Lashley VS Mr. Kennedy
The fans actually started turning on this match with all the leg work Kennedy was doing. Things got better by the end, but a lame DQ finish when lashley whacked Kennedy with a chair when Kennedy first tried to hit him with it. At least we got a Hiroshi Hase reference from JBL when Lashley gave Kennedy a T-bone suplex, though a T-bone is almost nothing like Hase's Urinage.
Match Rating: *1/2

Diva Invitational Talent Contest
Ashley beat everyone else by coming out, showing her Playboy magazine cover, and taking her top off revealing 2 Playboy bunny stickers covering her boobs. Ok......

Shawn Michaels & John Cena VS Batista & the Undertaker
Good to see Batista working harder than he usually does, most probably cause 'Taker is in there with him. The match was a good back and forth tag match, with the odds mostly against the RAW team due to the size and power advantage of the Smackdown team. The ending sort of made sense where Batista turned on 'Taker as payback for the chokeslam he received on RAW a few weeks back, leading to HBK hitting Sweet Chin Music and Cena hitting the FU on 'Taker to get the pin.
Match Rating: ***

Overall: I'm still a bit miffed that they nixed the 4-way tag title ladder match, but the show was still strong from top to bottom, except for the Diva bit.
